This 1984 Volvo 242 DL reportedly was purchased by the seller’s family 32 years ago from the original owner and now shows less than 64k miles. Finished in Dark Brown over tan cloth, the car is powered by a fuel-injected 2.3L inline-four paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. It resided in Massachusetts until the seller brought the car to California in 2016. Work over the past few years included replacing the catalytic converter, timing belt, overdrive relay, and shifter bushings, as well as flushes of the brake and transmission fluids. This 240 is now offered with an accident-free Carfax report, factory tools, owner’s manuals, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

This De Luxe coupe is finished in Dark Brown (202) and retains US-spec bumpers and quad-element headlights, while Volvo mud flaps are also featured. An interior and exterior cosmetic detail was performed in preparation for the sale. The driver’s outside door handle was replaced in 2016, and the seller notes a ding at the front left quarter panel as well as scraped paint inside the trunk.

14″ steel wheels and disc brakes are equipped at each corner, and a fluid flush was performed in 2016. The suspension consists of control arms up front and a solid rear axle on coil springs.

Tan cloth upholstery covers the manually adjustable front bucket seats and the rear bench. Cracks are noted on the dash top, and additional photos show the floors, matching mats, headliner, and dashboard. A period Blaupunkt AM/FM cassette deck is said to be the lone modification from stock.

Less than 64k miles are shown on the odometer, of which about 50k miles reportedly have been added by the seller and his family.

The 2.3-liter eight-valve/OHC inline-four is paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. The timing belt was replaced less than 1,000 miles ago, while transmission and coolant flushes were conducted by Bo Jonsson’s Foreign Car Service in San Mateo, California in 2016. Additional work in 2016 reportedly included replacing the spark plugs, overdrive relay, ignition wires, fuel filter, air mass boot, rear pinion seal, catalytic converter, and shift bushings, resealing the valve-cover gasket, and setting the vacuum advance.

The October 2019 Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists registration history in Massachusetts and California. The car was designated as a gross polluter in California in September 2018 but passed the state’s emissions testing in November 2018.
