This 1973 Volvo 1800ES is finished red over black and comes from the final year of production for the 1800 series. Power is supplied by a fuel-injected 2.0-liter inline-four, and refurbishment under previous ownership reportedly included a repaint in the factory color, interior refreshment, and a rebuild of the four-speed manual gearbox. The car was acquired by the current owner on BaT in 2016, and maintenance has since consisted of a tune-up and the installation of new A/C components. This 1800ES is being offered by the seller in Olympia, Washington on behalf of the current owner with service records, blue California license plates, and a clean California title.
The hatchback ES bodywork was finished in red (46) from the factory and was reportedly repainted under previous ownership. Exterior flaws include rub marks and overspray in the door jambs. Close-up photos of the chrome trim and glass insignias are provided in the image gallery below.
The 15″ steel wheels are said to have been painted silver and fitted with replacement beauty rings in 2016. Falken Ziex tires are mounted at all four corners.
Black vinyl seats are accented with matching door panels and red carpets. Cracks are present in the steering wheel and center console, and the rearview mirror has been repaired. The factory A/C system is said to have been refreshed with new components under current ownership.
Smiths instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline. The six-digit odometer shows 75k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership. Noted issues include an inoperable clock and Bendix radio.
The 2.0-liter inline-four is equipped with Bosch electronic fuel injection and paired with a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. The transmission was reportedly rebuilt under prior ownership, while the timing and valves were adjusted and an oil change were performed following the current owner’s purchase in 2016.
Additional photos of the underside are provided in the gallery below.
Maintenance records are said to date to new and include receipts for parts and service as well as a handwritten fuel fill-up and oil change log from the 1980s to the 2000s.
