This 1972 Volvo 1800ES was acquired by the current owner on BaT in March 2018, and it is powered by a 2.0-liter inline-four mated to a replacement four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The car was refinished in blue under prior ownership, and equipment includes fuel injection, four-wheel disc brakes, a glass rear hatch, stainless-steel exhaust components, 15″ steel wheels, Bilstein shocks, black upholstery, a locking console storage compartment, and a push-button radio. This 1800ES is now offered in North Carolina at no reserve by the seller on behalf of the owner, a licensed motor vehicle retail dealer, with awards and a clean California title.
The car left the factory in Sapphire Blue (108) and was repainted in the 1980s. Exterior equipment includes a glass rear hatch, a locking fuel filler door, chrome-finished bumpers, bright trim, quarter panel vents, Volvo-branded mud flaps, and polished dual exhaust outlets. Photos of paint meter readings are provided in the gallery below.
The 15″ steel wheels wear polished trim rings and Volvo center caps and are mounted with older 195/65 Maxima Radial GTS tires. A matching spare and jack are stored in the cargo area. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. The car was fitted with Bilstein shocks and replacement rear coil springs under prior ownership.
The front bucket seats are trimmed in black leather upholstery and are complemented by blue carpets and woodgrain trim. Appointments are comprised of an analog clock, a locking console storage compartment, a passenger grab bar, rear lap belts, and a Volvo-branded push-button radio. There is a split in the driver’s seat bottom upholstery, the air conditioning does not blow cold, and the heater core is not connected.
The three-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for water temperature and oil temperature while gauges for fuel level and oil pressure are centrally mounted in the dashboard. The six-digit odometer shows 72k miles.
The 2.0-liter B20F inline-four features Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection and was rated at 125 horsepower when new. Stainless-steel exhaust components were installed by a previous owner. An oil change was performed within the last 140 miles.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive that was replaced under prior ownership.
