This 1968 Saab Sonett II was fitted with a 1.7-liter V4 in the mid-1970s and reportedly sat from 1976 to 2001, when it underwent a refurbishment. It was acquired by the seller in 2015, and work is said to have since involved a refresh of the four-speed manual transaxle and replacement of the front brake pads, rear wheel cylinders, water pump, fuel pump, rear exhaust resonator, and clutch. The car is finished in red over a black interior and is equipped with a clamshell hood, a roll bar, a polycarbonate rear window, Pertronix electronic ignition, a Solex carburetor, front disc brakes, 15″ wheels, a roll bar, and three-point seat belts. This Sonett II is offered with partial records, spare and removed parts, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The fiberglass body is finished in red and was reportedly repainted around 2012 and fitted with replacement weatherstripping and a polycarbonate rear window. An LED third brake light was added by the seller. The windshield is delaminating and the rocker panels are dented around the jacking points. Various scratches and chips are shown in the gallery below.

Silver-finished 15″ wheels wear bright hubcaps and were mounted with 165-width Winston Classic Metric tires in 2000. A spare tire is located beneath the trunk floor. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. The master cylinder was re-sleeved and the front brake pads and rear wheel cylinders were replaced under current ownership per the seller.

The fixed-back bucket seats were reupholstered in black vinyl with red pleated inserts during the aforementioned refurbishment, and they are complemented by matching door panels. The headliner, trunk panels, and carpets were reportedly replaced. The cabin is equipped with a factory roll bar, a heater, and three-point inertial-lock seat belts. The clock is inoperative.

The three-spoke steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 58k miles, approximately 3k of which were added under current ownership. The speedometer gear was replaced under current ownership, and total mileage is unknown.

The 1.7-liter V4 is believed to have been installed around 1974 and is equipped with a Solex carburetor and Pertronix electronic ignition. Work performed by the seller reportedly involved replacing the water pump, fuel pump, coolant hoses, rear exhaust resonator, and battery. The seller notes hesitation during rapid acceleration from idle.

Power is sent to the front wheels through a column-shifted four-speed manual transaxle with freewheeling capability. The transmission is said to have been refreshed under current ownership, and work in 2023 reportedly involved replacement of the clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing, slave cylinder, and fork.
