No Reserve: 331-Powered 1985 Volvo 244 5-Speed

This 1985 Volvo 244 sedan was acquired by the seller in 1999, and subsequent work has involved installing a 331ci stroker V8 and a Tremec TKO 600 five-speed manual transmission, refinishing the car in red, and replacing the exhaust system and suspension components. Additional modifications are said to include a COMP Cams camshaft, aluminum cylinder heads, shorty headers, a Centerforce clutch, a lightweight flywheel, and Bilstein shocks. The car is also equipped with beige cloth upholstery, 14″ pressed steel wheels, power steering, an aluminum shift knob, an AM/FM cassette stereo, and aftermarket speakers. The fuel pumps, fuel filter, and battery were reportedly replaced in 2023. This 244 sedan is now offered with partial service records, spare parts, and a clean New Jersey title in the seller’s name.

The car was refinished in its current shade of Metallic Red in 2000 following rust repair to the rear quarter panels, according to the seller. Parts replaced in 2023 are said to include the windshield wiper motor, front turn signal covers, and the left taillight. The right rear light lenses are faded and do not match. Chrome trim on the front bumper is missing, and damage and wear around the rear bumper are shown in the gallery below. The seller reports that there is wind noise at highway speeds as well as missing trim clips and loose trim around the windshield and other parts of the car. Replacement front and rear center bumper moldings are included in the sale.

The 14″ pressed steel wheels show wear and are mounted with 195/70 tires, which the seller states are in need of replacement due to age. The seller also notes that the rear brakes do not work and there is rust on all rotors and calipers. Replacement brake components will accompany the car and are shown in the gallery below. Power steering is equipped, and Bilstein shocks and revised sway bars have been fitted.

The front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in beige cloth. An AM/FM cassette stereo is linked to Pioneer speakers with rear Infinity covers, and sound-deadening material is reportedly installed. An aluminum shift knob has been fitted. The seller reports that the air conditioning system does not hold a charge. Cracks in the dashboard and rear seatbelt housings as well as wear on the driver’s seat are shown in the gallery below. The door pockets are not installed and replacement parts are included in the sale.

The four-spoke steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer, 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. An analog clock and aftermarket digital readouts are located in the center of the dashboard, though the seller states that the air/fuel gauge is not connected. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 178k miles, approximately 63k of which were added under current ownership.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Tremec TKO 600 five-speed manual transmission, a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch, and a lightweight flywheel, per the seller. A Flowmaster muffler is fitted as part of the revised exhaust system. Corrosion on the differential, sway bars, and underside components is shown in the gallery below.
