This 1973 Volvo 1800ES was purchased in December 2012 by the current owner, who spent approximately three years refurbishing the car beginning in 2014. Work included installing a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, overhauling the 2.0-liter inline-four, refinishing the Sea Green exterior, and retrimming the seats in tan leather. The transmission and overdrive were rebuilt in August 2024. Features include a Magnaflow exhaust system, 15″ clover-style alloy wheels, a glass rear hatch, a bullet-style mirror, power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, a push-button radio, and air conditioning that utilizes R134a refrigerant. This 1800ES is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with spare parts, service records, and a clean California title in the owner’s name.
Introduced in 1972 as the last variant of the P1800, the 1800ES featured a shooting brake design with a glass rear hatch. This example left the factory finished in Sea Green (115) and was reportedly refinished during the refurbishment. It is equipped with a glass rear hatch and quarter vent windows, twin exhaust outlets, a bullet-style mirror, chrome bumpers, and bright trim. Detailed photos of the paint, trim, and imperfections are provided in the gallery. The rear hatch struts were replaced in preparation for the sale.
The 15″ clover-style alloy wheels are wrapped in 185/65 Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires that show date codes from 2015. The car rides on an independent front suspension with a live-axle setup and a Panhard bar out back. Braking is handled by power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes.
The cabin was refreshed under current ownership and features seating surfaces trimmed in tan leather and joined by matching door panels and contrasting blue carpeting. Interior amenities include reclining front bucket seats, a fold-down rear bench, a locking center console storage compartment, a front-passenger grab handle, a push-button radio, and an air conditioning system that has been converted to utilize R134a refrigerant. The sun visors were replaced in October 2024.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation, including a 120-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and supplementary oil and coolant temperature gauges. Additional gauges for oil pressure and fuel level are mounted in the dashboard’s center, along with an analog clock. The six-digit odometer shows 110k miles, approximately 200 of which were said to have been added after the refurbishment. Total mileage is unknown. The steering shaft seal was replaced in October 2024.
The 2.0-liter B20 inline-four was overhauled in 2015 and is equipped with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection in addition to a Magnaflow exhaust system. The air conditioning idler pulley was replaced in preparation for the sale.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive that was installed in 2015 and rebuilt in August 2024.
