This 1968 Volvo 122S is a two-door model that was the subject of a 2010 refurbishment involving a repaint in green and the installation of a 2.0-liter B20 inline-four. The car has been further modified with Crane electronic ignition, an Abarth exhaust system, and a rear axle sourced from a P1800 model as well as four-wheel disc brakes, Progressive Suspension springs, and an IPD front sway bar. Shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and additional equipment includes twin SU carburetors, 15″ slotted steel wheels, and yellow-lens auxiliary lights. Inside, custom bucket seats trimmed in tan leatherette and corduroy have been installed along with an Abarth-MOMO steering wheel, a tachometer, and a Bendix radio modified with Bluetooth capability. The current owner acquired the car in 2013, and work since 2022 has involved replacing the fuel tank, tires, and both clutch cylinders. This modified 122S is now offered at no reserve by the seller on behalf of the current owner with spare parts, service records, refurbishment photos, and a clean California title in the owner’s name.
The car was disassembled and stripped before being repainted its current shade of green as part of the aforementioned 2010 refurbishment. Yellow-lens auxiliary lights were added in 2021, and additional exterior details include a driver-side mirror, Volvo-branded rear mud flaps, front vent windows, push-button door handles, and bright bumpers with guards. Rust is visible on the edge of the left-rear fender.
Silver-finished 15″ slotted steel wheels with polished hubcaps sourced from a 122 wagon have been added, and they were mounted with 165-series Pirelli Cinturato tires in August 2023. Chassis modifications consist of an IPD front sway bar, Progressive Suspension springs, and Koni shocks. Disc brakes are fitted at each corner, and the rear brake pads were replaced in July 2021.
Custom front bucket seats sourced from GTS Classics of Manchaca, Texas, were installed in 2021, and they are trimmed in tan leatherette with corduroy inserts. Color-coordinated upholstery extends to the rear bench and door panels, and the cabin is further appointed with a heater, a passenger-side grab handle, and woven floor mats. The Bendix push-button radio has been modified to add Bluetooth connectivity, and it is connected to a speaker mounted into the parcel shelf.
The Abarth-MOMO leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a VDO horizontal-sweep 120-mph speedometer as well as supplementary gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. A Smiths 7k-rpm tachometer is centrally mounted atop the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 91k miles, approximately 3k of which have been added by the current owner.
A 2.0-liter B20 inline-four was installed in 2010. The replacement engine features twin SU carburetors, Crane electronic ignition, and an Abarth exhaust system with ceramic-coated long-tube headers. Work in February 2024 involved changing the oil as well as adjusting the valves and timing.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive as well as a rear axle sourced from a P1800 model. The transmission was re-sealed in July 2021, the fuel tank was replaced in April 2022, and both clutch cylinders were replaced in February 2024.
