This 1967 Volvo 1800S was acquired by the seller in 2021 after a period of storage and subsequently underwent over $50k of work as part of a multi-year refurbishment. The project included rust repair and paintwork along with an interior refresh and overhauls of the brakes, suspension, chassis, drivetrain, and electrical system. Power is provided by a 1.8-liter inline-four that was fitted with a single Weber downdraft carburetor setup and an aluminum intake manifold along with a 4-2-1 exhaust header as part of the build. Finished in red, the car rides on 15″ steel wheels and is equipped with front disc brakes as well as a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Inside, leather-trimmed front bucket seats are accompanied by an AM/FM radio and Smiths instrumentation. This 1800S is now offered with refurbishment records and transferable New York registration in the name of the seller and their spouse.
The car left the factory finished in Cherry Red (46) and underwent rust removal as well as paintwork as part of the aforementioned refurbishment completed in 2024. The hood was stripped and repainted, while the inner rocker panels and outriggers were repaired or replaced. The seller tells us that additional work involved replacing the windshield, wiper arms, horns, exterior lighting, and antenna along with adding LED headlight assemblies. The windshield washer pump is missing, and rust is noted in the quarter panel behind the left-rear wheel as well as below the rear bumper.
The 15″ steel wheels are mounted with Coker Classic redline tires. Service under current ownership has included the following:
- Powder-coating the wheels in silver
- Refinishing the stainless-steel trim rings
- Installing replacement Volvo-branded hubcaps
- Refurbishing the springs, control arms, and anti-sway bars
- Replacing the shocks and ball joints
- Adding urethane suspension bushings
- Replacing the brake master cylinder, booster, and hard lines
- Replacing the front brake calipers, pads, rotors, and hoses
- Replacing the rear brake drums, shoes, cylinders, and hoses
- Replacing the front and rear torque boxes
- Epoxy-coating various suspension, steering, and brake components
The front bucket seats are trimmed in leather, while vinyl covers the rear bench along with the dash, door cards, and side panels. Further interior appointments include a Volvo-branded AM/FM radio, a heater, and three-point front seatbelts. Work under current ownership is said to have involved refurbishing the seats as well as undercoating the floor pans and adding red carpets. Noted flaws include a crack in the upper dash, malfunctioning fan controls, and inoperative dome lights along with wear on the kick panels and door cards.
A two-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and a vertical combination gauge along with a centrally mounted clock and auxiliary readouts. Cracks are visible in the gauge glass, and the water and oil temperature readouts do not work. The five-digit odometer shows 12k miles, approximately 300 of which have been added under current ownership. The seller states that true mileage is unknown.
The 1.8-liter B18B inline-four sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The factory twin SU carburetor setup has been replaced with a single Weber downdraft setup featuring an aluminum intake manifold, while the exhaust system has been upgraded with a 4-2-1 header, 2″ piping, and a dual-outlet muffler. Additional work under current ownership has included:
