This 1973 Saab Sonett III was purchased by its current owner in 1975 and parked around 1984. In 2017 a refurbishment started with a rebuild of the 1.7-liter V4 along with the alternator, starter, and the four-speed transmission, while the flywheel was lightened, and following disassembly of the car and a refinish of the body in primer, the project eventually stalled. The car is also equipped with a Weber 32/36 two-barrel carburetor, front disc brakes, and 15″ soccer ball wheels. Parts accompanying the project include carpets, interior panels, fixed-back bucket seats, a dashboard with gauges, doors with window glass, spare tires, and more. This Sonett III project is now offered in Lewes, Delaware, on dealer consignment at no reserve with a clean New York title.
The fiberglass body is absent its glass and is finished in primer gray. The removed doors are finished in orange and retain their door glass.
The 15” soccer ball wheels are mounted with Kumho tires measuring 175/65. A spare wheel is included in the sale along with spare tires. The car was factory equipped with rack-and-pinion steering as well as coil springs with telescopic shock absorbers. A replacement front sway bar, brackets, bushings, coil springs, and Koni adjustable shocks along with front disc and rear drum brakes have been added or are included.
The fixed-back bucket seats are trimmed in gray leather with gray suede inserts, yellow stitching, and Saab backrest embroidery. The interior of the car has been stripped, and an interior trim and carpet set accompanies the project.
The removed dashboard retains a glovebox door and set of gauges, including a five-digit odometer showing over 57k miles.
The 1.7-liter V4 was was fitted with a replacement two-barrel Weber carburetor during the 2017 rebuild by Ashcraft Saab V4 Parts of Medford, Oregon. The flywheel was lightened and resurfaced, and the alternator and starter were rebuilt.
Power is routed to the front wheels through a four-speed manual transmission that was fitted with a replacement clutch disc, pressure plate, and release bearing at the time of the engine rebuild.
