This 1973 Volvo 1800ES is from the second and final model for the unusual but classic Swedish shooting brake, and it looks good in light blue over 240 Turbo wheels and a matching leather interior. The ad describes sheet metal as solid, paint as beautiful and chrome as very nice. Condition does look to be good, and though from a completely different era, somehow the 240 Turbo OEM style 5-spoke wheels work quite well here–a small drop would help them gel even better with their surroundings. This color is one of our favorite things about this example, and the matching interior is unusual but attractive–a lot like the car itself.
The cabin is shown from this angle as well as with the distinct glass hatch open, and leather, carpets and plastics all look good. The dash seems to be in good shape, and the seller claims as much in the ad. Additionally, they note that the headliner is holding up well, and though factory vinyl “wood” veneers are missing from the instrument surround/vertical portion of the dash, we think it actually looks better this way–at least with these colors.
Described as well-maintained and running well, the engine bay looks all standard, with accumulated grime and wear consistent with 102k and change claimed miles. There’s no word on spec or maintenance however, but a careful check over should be considered mandatory before exchanging money, anyway.
Grab an IPD catalog and throw some Bilsteins, moderate lowering springs, and a few other chassis upgrades at it and the car could handle as good as it looks.
