This 1986 Volvo 240 DL is powered by a 2.3L OHC inline-four with automatic transmission, and was acquired from its long-time Washington DC-area owner about a month ago. The seller grew up around his father’s Volvo repair shop and has experience working on 240s. Services completed in December 2016 included an oil/filter change, alternator belt adjustment, new right front brake caliper, new brake pads front and rear, and a front tire balancing. The seller has driven the car about 1,000 miles, and reports this 240 Deluxe has no mechanical issues. An accident-free Carfax report accompanies the sale, and shows prior North Carolina and Virginia ownership. This Volvo is offered at no reserve, with original manuals, service records back to original ownership, dealer-stamped service interval book, and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name. This 240 DL is said to wear original single-stage paint over straight body panels. The seller states there is no known accident history or prior body/paint work. There are two small rust spots on the inside of the front door jams, with one on each side as shown in gallery photos below. Also noted are two rust spots to the driver side floor pan. Dealer-installed accessories included AM/FM/Cassette stereo, power antenna, cruise control, oil pressure gauge and voltmeter, trailer hitch, floor and trunk mats, rear headrests and headrest cushions. The stereo has been replaced with a JVC head unit with CD, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, playing through Pioneer speakers mounted behind original grilles. All equipment is reported working, including both heater and A/C, said to blow cold and with a new belt. Heated seats and lighted indicator switches are working, as shown in gallery photos. Color-correct gear shift trim has just been added, with some photos still showing a gray piece. This Volvo has experienced two odometer failures, the first noted in a 1987 dealer service record showing a speedo replacement at 15k miles, the second at 90,646 miles at which the gauge is now frozen. The prior owner believed the car has covered about 130k miles, with actual mileage unknown. The seller is having the odometer rebuilt, and remaining gauges in the cluster checked and rebuilt as needed. The otherwise clean Carfax notes that Virginia issued a Not Actual Mileage Title in 2015. The tidy engine compartment houses a B230F 2,316cc OHC inline-four believed to be the original unit. This fuel-injected, low compression variant was rated at 114hp when new, and benefits from recent alternator brush replacement. The trunk holds an original temporary use spare wheel and a Volvo emergency gas can. Rear shocks were replaced in 2015, and the car recently received new ball joints and an alignment. The seller notes the car has no known leaks, and moisture visible in under body photos is from rain not oil or other fluids. The car rides on steel wheels, and the seller has added V-logo chrome center caps and beauty rings from an older 240. Regul Touring A/S tires are less than two years old, with good tread remaining as shown in gallery photos.
