Rare Factory Panel Van: 1962 Saab 95 Bullnose

This 1962 Saan 95 is described as one of three Danish-spec vans exported to the UK for use as dealer service vehicles. Unlike nearby Sweden, Denmark has always driven on the right, so this car’s RHD configuration seems to be at odds with these claims. Regardless, it’s a very cool little car with factory two-stroke triple power, great colors, and the “bullnose” front end which is arguably more attractive than those fitted to later cars. The rare panel van body is very interesting as well, and following an older restoration the car still shows quite well. Mechanical condition isn’t touched on directly, but a video linked in the listing shows the car running well and driving through all gears. Find it here on eBay in Saint Louis, Missouri with reserve not met. Special thanks to BaT reader PGN for this submission. A utilitarian green/gray almost always looks good on small European cars of this era, and this one’s no exception. The seller says that this is the car’s original color, adding that finish remains in “near-excellent” condition following what they call a “complete restoration” dating from the early 1990’s. Filled-in window openings sound to be factory, and we dig the old Saab logos on the doors as well. The interior looks standard-issue Saab 95 from the seatbacks forward, though the back has been stripped out for hauling cargo rather than people and shopping. Note the wire metal cargo divider. Excluding the badly warped dash pad, overall interior condition looks to be on par with the exterior. The little two-stroke triple looks nice and tidy in a detailed engine bay, and transmits power to the front wheels via a column-shifted 4-speed with freewheeling function. The latter was designed to disengage the engine from the drive wheels during downhill descents, thus preventing it from turning faster than the given throttle opening (and incoming lubrication) would normally allow–a situation which could otherwise lead to seized internals. We’d love to see this one at a Saab show, or any car gathering really, though seeing it out on the streets leaving a chainsaw soundtrack and blue smoke in its wake would be even better.
