This 1968 Volvo 1800S was recently recommissioned after sitting in storage for ten years and is equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The seller acquired the car two months ago and has documentation indicating the car has been in California since new. The 1800cc engine is equipped with dual carburetors, and a previous owner fitted a new fuel tank, fuel pump, and front and rear IPD sway bars. The seller has replaced the rear wheel cylinders, flushed the brake system, and installed one new driveshaft U-joint. This 1968 1800S is being offered with service documents and receipts from 1983, and a clean California title in the seller’s name. The seller believes the paint to be largely original following a thickness gauge test, though there is evidence that the driver’s side door and passenger’s side rear quarter have been refinished. There are various dings on the body, and on the stainless trim which can be seen in the photos below. The fuel filler door is reported to be a different shade of white. Documentation from Lars Gerdin at the Volvo Museum Historical Archive reportedly shows that the body number, engine number, and transmission number match. The power brake servo is disconnected, though the car is said to be driveable, while the clutch pedal is described as occasionally sticky. One tire was replaced due to cracking, and the remaining three are old and should be replaced as well. In addition to the new parts already mentioned, the previous owner fitted new brake calipers, and the seller repaired the hood hinges and installed a new headlight dimmer switch. A previous owner changed the interior color from red to the beige color seen here. Both the upper and lower dash pads are split, the carpets are discolored, and the sun visor material is torn. The oil temperature, fuel, and oil pressure gauge function, though the tachometer, speedometer, water temperature gauge, and clock reportedly do not. 13k miles are indicated, but true mileage is unknown. The 1800cc engine is said to start easily and the car is very drivable. The engine oil pressure is reported as 25 psi at hot idle, and generally 50psi at higher speeds. The previous owner installed a new fuel pump and rebuilt the carburetors. The seller has provided the following results of an engine compression test, with results of Cylinders 1-4 in the following order: -170 psi -140psi -165psi -115psi Cylinder #4 is said to leak through the exhaust valve when pressurized. The gallery below contains detailed photos of the vehicle’s undercarriage and supension components. The seller is believed to be the fourth owner. The service records date primarily from 1983-1992, but also include receipts from the subsequent owners.
