This 1971 Volvo 1800 coupe was purchased as a rolling project by the seller in 2013. A subsequent five-year refurbishment at Alan Auto of Portland, Maine reportedly included refinishing the car in Titanium Grey Metallic over a black leather interior featuring a backdated dashboard, steering wheel, and gauges. Power is from a 2.0-liter B20B inline-four and M41 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive sourced from a 1969 model, while other modifications include IPD sway bars and VTO wheels. This 1800 is now offered in Georgia with a transferable Maine registration in the seller’s name.
The car is said to have been repainted in Volvo code 347 Titanium Gray Metallic, with the seller noting that body repairs were not necessary beforehand. The condition of the resulting finish is shown up close in several gallery photos below.
The car retains factory chrome and rubber bumpers, while the stock side marker lights have been omitted. Eight-spoke 15″ VTO wheels wear Michelin Defender tires sized 195/65 all around. IPD sway bars are fitted front and rear.
The interior is finished in black leather and features a metal-faced dashboard, Smiths gauges with teal inserts, and 2-spoke steering wheel sourced from a 1969 model. Volvo-branded rubber floor mats cover the black carpets.
An aftermarket stereo is mounted in the dash, and the air conditioning system was reportedly fitted with a rotary compressor during the refurbishment. The 6-digit odometer reads approximately 71k miles, with total chassis mileage unknown.
The 1969-model 2.0-liter B20B inline-four was reportedly rebuilt before replacing the stock fuel-injected engine and is fitted with twin Stromberg carburetors. Shifting is through an M41 4-speed manual transmission sourced from the same donor car. Changes of the oil and transmission fluid were reportedly performed in January 2019.
