This 1973 Volvo 1800ES was purchased by the seller as a running and driving project approximately five years ago, and it has since undergone a cosmetic refurbishment, with work that included disassembling the car, repairing corrosion, rechroming the bumpers, and repainting the body in metallic blue. The car is powered by a 2.0-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed overdrive manual transmission, and equipment includes 15″ pressed steel wheels, a glass rear hatch, power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, a cassette radio, and a heater. A tune-up was completed earlier this year, and the hatch lock was repaired and the seatbelts were replaced in preparation for the sale. This 1800ES is now offered with parts receipts and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
Introduced in 1972 as the last variant of the P1800, the 1800ES featured a shooting brake design with a glass rear hatch. Circa 2023, this example was disassembled, corrosion was repaired by welding in replacement metal, the body was chemical-stripped, and the car refinished in its current color, which the seller tells us is a few shades darker than the factory Light Blue Metallic. The bumpers have been re-chromed, and the rear hatch lock was repaired in preparation for the sale.
This is a relist after the vehicle was previously sold on BaT in June 2025 and the sale was not completed due to an issue with the rear hatch lock and a seatbelt, both of which have since been resolved.
The 15″ pressed steel wheels wear trim rings. The car rides on an independent front suspension along with a live-axle setup using a Panhard bar out back. Braking is handled by power-assisted four-wheel discs.
The reclining front bucket seats are trimmed in Light Blue leather, while the folding rear bench features blue vinyl. Interior appointments include a front-passenger grab handle, a fold-down rear seat, a locking console storage compartment, a cassette radio, and a heater. The analog clock does not work, and the seatbelts were replaced in preparation for the sale.
The leather wrapped three-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and supplementary gauges. The speedometer was repaired to correct a bouncing needle. The six-digit odometer shows 81k miles, although the seller tells us that this figure is inaccurate, and total mileage is unknown.
The 2.0-liter B20 inline-four is equipped with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 112 horsepower and 115 lb-ft of torque. A tune-up was carried out earlier this year, per the seller.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive.
