This 1966 Volvo 1800S remained with the same family since new and was inherited by the current owner from their father in May 2012, according to the seller. The car was repainted candy red and pearlescent white in 2015, and in 2018 the interior was overhauled with beige cloth upholstery, red houndstooth inserts, and a Pioneer stereo system. It is powered by a 1.8-liter inline-four linked to a four-speed manual transmission with a Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit, and it is also equipped with front disc brakes, 15″ steel wheels, front shoulder belts, and a Weber 32/36 DGEV carburetor. This 1800S is now offered on behalf of the current owner with manufacturer’s literature, service records, historical registration documents, spare parts, and a clean California title in the current owner’s name.
The car left the factory finished in Cherry Red (46), and in 2015 it was repainted candy red and pearlescent white according to the seller, who notes that the rust repairs have been performed in the door jambs.
Black-finished 15″ steel wheels wear polished Volvo-logo hubcaps and are mounted with 165/80 Classic Radial All-Season tires that have 2016 production date codes, and a full-size spare is housed in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes. The brake switch was replaced in 2012.
The cabin houses low-back front bucket seats and a rear bench that have been reupholstered in beige cloth with red piping houndstooth-patterned inserts. Black carpets line the footwells, and additional appointments include an analog clock, a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, a passenger grab handle, front shoulder belts, and a Pioneer CD stereo linked to a trunk-mounted amplifier. The upper and lower dashboard pads are missing, the carpet is loose on the edges and has visible tears, the right-front window crank is not installed, and the door seals are worn.
The two-spoke steering wheel wears an aftermarket cover and fronts Smiths instrumentation that consists of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant and oil temperature, while auxiliary oil pressure and fuel level gauges are housed at the center of the dashboard. An aftermarket coolant temperature gauge is mounted below the dashboard. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 68k miles, approximately 400 of which have been added under current ownership. True mileage is unknown.
The 1.8-liter B18 inline-four is equipped with a single Weber 32/36 DGEV carburetor topped with an open-element air cleaner. The fuel tank and filter were replaced in October 2022.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with a Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit. The overdrive unit solenoid was replaced in 2012 and the relay was replaced in 2015, and exhaust repairs were performed in 2017. Corrosion is visible on various underside components as well as overspray, and the exhaust system leaks.
