This 1967 Saab Sonett II was reportedly used as an RMVR track car under previous ownership, and work following the seller’s acquisition in 2012 is said to have included a repaint in orange, rebuilding the four-speed manual transaxle, and installing a modified and overbored 1.5-liter V4, a Weber downdraft carburetor, a lightened flywheel, a heavy-duty clutch, polyurethane suspension bushings, a plexiglass rear window, an intake scoop, and a 15-gallon aluminum fuel cell. Additional equipment includes 15″ “soccer ball” alloy wheels, front disc brakes, black vinyl upholstery, and a Kenwood CD stereo. This Sonett is now offered with a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name.
The fiberglass body was repainted in the current shade of orange under current ownership, according to the seller, and a plexiglass rear window with Sonett III-specification hinges was installed. The hood was modified and a rear-facing scoop was mounted to the valve covers to accommodate the carburetor. Additional details include an external battery cut-off switch, a left door mirror, B-pillar vents, and a rear-mounted antenna. The windshield wiper linkages are inoperative, the side window seals require replacement, and defects and crazing are present in the exterior finish.
Alloy 15″ “soccer-ball” wheels are wrapped in Sumitomo HTR A/S P02 tires. Work performed in 2019 reportedly included machining the brake rotors and drums as well as replacing the brake pads, shoes, rear wheel bearings, ball joints, tie rod ends, and all four shock absorbers. The seller states that Powerflex polyurethane suspension bushings were installed in 2023, with the exception of the center mount for the rear axle.
The cabin was partially stripped under previous ownership, and it features bucket seats trimmed in black vinyl along with color-matching door panels, a roll bar, and a Kenwood CD stereo linked with aftermarket speakers. A three-spoke steering wheel features a vinyl wrap and fronts a 120-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and an aftermarket coolant temperature gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 16k miles. The odometer and fuel level gauge are inoperative. Total mileage is unknown.
The 1.5-liter V4 is said to have been overbored under previous ownership, and the seller states that work under current ownership includes overhauling, porting, and polishing the cylinder heads, re-coring the radiator, replacing the bearings for the crankshaft, connecting rods, and balance shafts, and installing an MSS performance camshaft, lightweight lifters, and a two-barrel intake manifold, a Weber 32/36 downdraft carburetor, an electric cooling fan, an electronic ignition system, an electric fuel pump, and a 15-gallon aluminum fuel cell. An oil change was performed in April 2024.
Power is sent to the front wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle that was reportedly overhauled during current ownership. The seller states that a lightened flywheel, a heavy-duty clutch, and a pressure plate with stronger strings have been installed. The freewheeling mechanism has been disabled.
