This 1972 Volvo 1800E was refurbished and modified in the late 1990s and purchased by the seller on BaT in December 2021. It has been refinished in Ruby Red Pearl with silver center stripes over black leather and is powered by a 2.0-liter B20F inline-four linked to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Equipment includes Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection, Bilstein shock absorbers, IPD sway bars, four-wheel disc brakes, 15″ Superlite alloy wheels, air conditioning, and a Blaupunkt radio. This 1800E is offered with spare parts and a clean Kansas title in the seller’s name.
Portions of the floors and floor supports were replaced before the car was repainted Ruby Red Peal with silver center stripes in 1999. Exterior details include a backdated “egg crate” grille, chrome trim, and a Volvo High Mileage Club badge at the rear. The seller notes that a ceramic coating was applied to the paint under current ownership, and the removed chrome bumpers are included in the sale.
The 15″ Superlite alloy wheels are mounted with 205/60 Hankook Kinergy tires that were manufactured in 2021. Bilstein shock absorbers were added along with IPD sway bars and rear suspension bushings under previous ownership. Braking is handled by discs at all four corners with braided stainless-steel lines. An air leak is noted from the left rear tire.
The front bucket seats and contoured rear seats are trimmed in black leather and contrasted by red carpets. Woodgrain trim accents the dash, and appointments include air conditioning, a locking center console, and a Blaupunkt push-button AM/FM radio. The dashboard is cracked and the turn signal switch does not work, although the seller notes that the hazard lights function correctly.
The three-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 7k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and gauges for oil and coolant temperature. Readouts for fuel level and oil pressure reside centrally on the dash along with an inoperative analog clock. The five-digit odometer shows 49k miles, while the total mileage is unknown.
The 2.0-liter B20F inline-four is equipped with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection and was reportedly overhauled under previous ownership with an IPD street performance camshaft, double valve springs and bronze guides, high-compression pistons, a replacement valve cover, and neoprene engine seals. Additional modifications include a Volvo 240-sourced fuel pressure regulator and electric cooling fans. The distributor was rebuilt and the spark plugs were replaced in 2019, and the voltage regulator and battery were changed under current ownership. A disconnected nitrous-injection system is said to accompany the car.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with electronic overdrive. Fluid leaks are noted from the transmission and differential.
