This 1966 Saab 96 is a European-market car that was acquired by the seller from the founder of a now-closed Saab museum in the Netherlands in 2021 and subsequently brought to the US. Power comes from an 841cc two-stroke inline-three equipped with triple carburetors that is linked to a four-speed manual transaxle. Further equipment includes 15” steel wheels, front disc brakes, and Hella driving lights along with a Hollandia sunroof, two-tone upholstery, and a cabin heater. The clutch friction disc was replaced in 2024. This 96 is now offered with manufacturer’s literature, a car cover, spare parts, and transferable New York registration listing the car as a 1965 model.
The 96 was introduced in 1960, and updates for the 1965 model year included revised front bodywork to accommodate the radiator, which was moved ahead of the engine. This 1966 example was repainted in red under prior ownership. Hella driving lights have been added up front, and further details include a Hollandia sunroof, bright grille accents, dual side mirrors, and narrow moldings above the wheel wells. The seller notes cracked window seals along with bubbling paint on the roof, damage on the right-rear corner, and paint chips around the car.
Black 15” four-lug steel wheels wear polished hubcaps and are mounted with 165/80 Nexen SB-802 tires. The car rides on coil springs all around, and the front disc brakes and rear drums are connected to dual circuits with each serving one front wheel and the rear wheel on the opposite side.
The cabin is trimmed in cream vinyl and red cloth. Gray mats line the floors, and additional appointments include a cabin heater, a clock, and a painted dashboard fascia. Deterioration on the seat upholstery can be viewed up-close in the gallery.
The two-spoke steering wheel has a chrome horn ring and frames VDO instrumentation consisting of a 180-km/h speedometer flanked by gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 54k kilometers (~34k miles), approximately 100 of which have been added under current ownership.
The Monte Carlo–specification 841cc two-stroke inline-three is equipped with triple carburetors. The engine block casting number 731015 is shown in the gallery.
Power is sent to the front wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. The clutch friction disc is said to have been replaced 2024. Corrosion is visible on underbody components, which can be viewed in the gallery.
A car cover and spare parts are included in the sale along with manufacturer’s literature, which can be viewed in the gallery.
The vehicle is being sold on its transferable registration, which serves as the ownership document in New York.
