This 1987 Saab 900 Turbo is a Cherry Red-over tan convertible that is said to have been modified by Modern Classic Saab (MCS) in 2019 with a larger Garrett turbocharger, a Garrett 7-psi wastegate actuator, a Trionic 5 engine management system, a replacement ECU and wiring harness, a Quaife limited-slip differential, a rebuilt and upgraded five-speed manual transaxle, Wilwood front brake calipers, and a 3″ downpipe, a 2.5″ cat-back exhaust system. The car was offered on BaT in August 2020 before it was sold on BaT in February 2021, and work following the current owner’s acquisition included replacing the battery along with the power steering rack and hoses. Powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four, this 900 convertible shows 122k miles and is now offered in New Jersey by the seller on behalf of the owner with a tan top boot, partial service invoices, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Arkansas title in the owner’s name.

The body is finished in Cherry Red (127H) and features a black convertible top, gray lower body cladding, and front fog lamps. The upper beltline trim was removed under previous ownership, and modifications include clear front turn signal lenses, smoked front side marker lenses, and tinted windows. The power function for the convertible top is inoperative, and the top requires manual assistance. The material at the lower right corner of the rear window is separating.

The 15″ tri-spoke alloy wheels are mounted with 205/60 BFGoodrich Advantage T/A tires. Modifications installed under previous ownership include stainless braided brake lines along with a Wilwood remote brake master cylinder, front brake calipers, and brake pads. The power steering rack and hoses were replaced in April 2021, and an alignment was performed at that time.

The heated front seats are trimmed in tan leather and are complemented by color-coordinated carpets and door panels, a black dash, and black trim. Amenities include air conditioning, power windows, cruise control, a Kenwood stereo with Bluetooth compatibility, Pioneer speakers, and an 8″ Pioneer subwoofer. An RBM short-throw shifter was installed along with a center armrest and a 9-3-specification cup holder under previous ownership.

The padded steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation consisting of a 130-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock as well as gauges for boost pressure, engine temperature, and fuel level. Aftermarket gauges installed in the center stack provide readings for voltage, oil temperature, oil pressure, exhaust temperature, boost, and water temperature. The six-digit odometer shows 122k miles, under 2k of which were added under current ownership.

The turbocharged 2.0L 16-valve inline-four was reportedly overhauled by Modern Classic Saab (MCS) in 2019, and modifications performed at that time are said to have included the installation of the following components:

  • Garrett GT28RS turbocharger
  • Garrett 7-psi wastegate actuator
  • Do88 coolant hoses
  • MCS custom feed and coolant lines
  • MCS coolant block-off plate
  • MTC crank pulley
  • 3″ intake ducting with AEM dry filter
  • MCS 3″ stainless mandrel-bent downpipe
  • SAS equal-length tubular exhaust manifold
  • Bosch oxygen sensor
  • Innovate wide-band oxygen sensor kit
  • Trionic 5 engine management system w/replacement ECU
  • Bosch 044 fuel pump
  • Bosch 550cc fuel injectors
  • Bosch 3.0-bar fuel pressure regulator
  • Modified Saab 9000 fuel rail

.

The battery was replaced in April 2021, and there is a draw on the electrical system. The seller notes that an issue with the fuel pump was addressed under current ownership.

Power is sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle that was installed in December 2020, and the clutch slave cylinder and gear synchros were replaced. A Quaife limited-slip differential and an MCS performance flywheel were also installed, along with a 2.5″ mandrel-bent cat-back system with a 20″ resonator and an Aero Exhaust muffler. Additional modifications are listed on a document in the previous listing.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other reported damage.
