This 1964 Volvo 122S is a four-door model that was refurbished in red over light gray leatherette between 2018 and 2022, and it has been re-powered with a 2.0-liter B20 inline-four linked with an M40 four-speed manual gearbox. The car was acquired by the seller on BaT in June 2022, and subsequent work included the installation of silver-finished 15″ steel wheels, iPd anti-sway bars, and a leather steering wheel cover along with a replacement fuel pump and sending unit, data plate, ignition coil bracket, bumpers, windshield washer components, tires, and more. Additional details include dual SU carburetors, an electronic distributor, front disc brakes, and a heater. This 122S is now offered at no reserve with manufacturer’s literature, a collection of spare parts, a seller-provided refurbishment and service summary, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name that lists the car as a 1965 model.

The car was finished in Cherry Red from the factory and was repainted during the refurbishment, and the weatherstripping was subsequently replaced. Equipment includes a left-side mirror, Volvo-branded mud flaps, and a single exhaust outlet. The bumpers and overriders were replaced along with the windshield washer fluid reservoir and mechanism.

A set of 4.5″ wide 15″ slotted steel wheels were sourced following the seller’s acquisition and were mounted with 165-series Nexen tires, and a spare wheel and tire along were added along qfs with iPd front and rear anti-sway bars. Work performed under previous ownership is said to have included replacing front brake components as well as installing polyurethane suspension bushings and KYB gas shocks. Stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes.

The cabin features seats that were reupholstered in light gray leatherette and are complemented by a body-color lower dashboard and upper door trim. The interior was lined with Kilmat sound-deadening insulation before the replacement headliner, carpet, and door panels were installed.

The two-spoke steering wheel was fitted with a stitched leather wrap under current ownership, and it features a chrome horn ring. Instrumentation includes a 120-mph VDO speedometer along with gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer has rolled over and now shows 37k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership.  A split is noted in the dashboard upholstery near the instrument binnacle.

The factory engine was replaced with a B20F 2.0-liter inline-four that was reportedly rebuilt and .060″ overbored under previous ownership. Equipment includes a 123 electronic distributor, a Volvo “D” camshaft, dual rebuilt SU HS6 carburetors, and a fabricated 2″ exhaust system. Work following the seller’s acquisition included replacing the fuel pump and level sending unit along with the battery, ignition coil mount, and clutch fluid reservoir cap.

Initially delivered with an automatic transmission, the car sends power to the rear wheels through a retrofitted M40 four-speed manual transmission and a revised differential that is said to feature 4.10:1 gears. The clutch was replaced under previous ownership.

A spare set of 15″ steel wheels and hub adapters are included in the sale along with manufacturer’s literature, touch-up paint, and a collection of spare parts.

The reproduction data plate above lists a chassis number of 164592, which corresponds to the VIN on the current Arizona title.
