This ad lists two Volvo 1800ES projects for sale, one described as an automatic transmission-equipped 1973 “fixer-upper” and the other, presumably manual ’72 as a parts car. Both cars are white, and photographed in a way that makes them difficult to tell apart–either that or only one is shown. The seller notes that neither runs, but adds that the two could be used to make one good car. Find them both here on Craigslist in Berkeley, California for $5k.
All front shots appear to be of the same car, but it’s unclear if the one shown below and from the rear is different. What can be seen does look restorable, with apparently complete trim and good glass, including the model’s large, signature glass hatch, a feature which still looks straight from a concept car nearly 45 years after the ES’s debut.
Introduced in 1972 and phased out in ’73, between the two, both years of the model’s short production run are represented. Neither are running.
The interior shot below shows an automatic gear selector, and as the seller notes that the two pedal car is the most restorable, the photo is one more piece of evidence pointing towards it being the only one photographed. For good or bad, the white over seafoam color scheme is very Disco Era, further enhancing the early 70’s concept car vibe. The pictured door panel might be salvageable, but seats are toast. No clear shots of the dash or the rear of the cabin are provided.
Hopefully rust is limited, and the parts car has some good parts to donate–it’d be a shame for any more of these scarce wagons go to the crusher.
