This 1984 Volvo 244 Diesel (VIN YV1AX7748E1028951) is said to have remained with one family for many years until recently. Further claimed to be garage-kept, a stack of service records dating back to new are included. Nice 240’s are getting hard to find, and this one’s rare diesel, service history, and good colors set it further apart from the crowd. Find it here on eBay in Ocala, Florida with no reserve.
Straight body panels lie beneath shiny blue-gray paint, and all correct trim appear to be intact. Glass also shows well, and the handsome OEM turbine wheels are wrapped in new rubber. Roof racks seem to be standard aftermarket issue for these cars.
The dark blue interior is holding up well, with no glaring issues, and only a few minor cracks to various trim items. Seats have been recovered in what looks close to the correct factory style, and A/C has been converted to R134a, but will need a new compressor. Elsewhere in the cabin, a modern stereo system has been installed, and though these 4-speed manuals with push-button overdrive generally aren’t quite as reliable as later, true 5-speeds, the diesel motor and sunroof are nice consolation prizes.
Mileage is listed at just over 122k, but as long as it’s been properly maintained, the diesel six should still have a lot of life left in it. Said to have recently received new timing and accessory belts, other work included fitment of a new injection pump and brakes.
These 200-series cars are about as durable and simple to work on as old cars get, making these ideal beginner classics. Throw in an economical diesel, a stickshift and good maintenance history, and this one could make a practical semi-daily driver.
