This 1985 Volvo 244 was acquired by the seller in 2014 and features a fuel-injected inline-four mated to a four-speed manual transmission with electronic overdrive. Finished in Dark Beige over a brown cloth interior, the car was sold new at Ray Tanner Volvo in Phoenix, Arizona and has remained in the state since, with the seller acquiring it just over four years ago. The seller and his son have refreshed the car with a replacement transmission, brake repairs, IPD suspension updates, and more. This 244 is now offered at no reserve with an accident-free Carfax report, removed stock parts, service records, owner’s manuals, two keysets, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.
This four-door example was dispatched from Gothenburg finished in Dark Beige (201), and the seller notes a number of paint scratches, chips, and thinning as further documented in the gallery. The car wears Arizona gold/red historic plates, and the seller has brought it to several Cactus Chapter Volvo Club events. No accidents or damage are noted on the accompanying Carfax report. The seller has replaced the bulbs for the rear plate and brake lights, and a newer exhaust system is visible in gallery photos.
The seller installed an updated Volvo 240 windshield in 2014, and more recently rebuilt the windshield washer pump and replaced the reservoir. Refinished 14″ Fergat steel wheels feature stainless steel beauty rings as well as 2015-issue 185/70 Barum Brillantis2 tires. Four media blasted 14” alloy Volvo Corona wheels and center caps are included and shown in the gallery.
Inside, the cabin is upholstered in brown cloth and features manually-adjustable seats as well as manual windows and mirrors. The seller notes sun fading and wear in addition to a cracked dash, shown under the custom carpet kit. A rear carpet covers the rear deck as well.
The factory clock was replaced with a 6,500-rpm tachometer under previous ownership. Though the odometer currently registers 127k miles, it has been stuck since June 2017 according to the seller’s records and true mileage cannot be confirmed. A replacement speedometer gear is included in addition to a non-operational factory radio and a Kenwood digital stereo.
Power comes from a 2.3-liter B230 inline-four, and servicing under current ownership included replacing the harmonic balancer, air filter, spark plugs and wires, exhaust manifold gasket, water pump, water pipe, coolant, belts, and hoses. A new fuel sending unit and in-tank pre-pump were installed several years ago. Additional replacement parts shown on the seller’s records include the camshaft seals and valve cover gasket.
The M46 4-speed manual transmission was replaced in 2017 with another M46 along with a new transmission mount, crankshaft seal, clutch, throwout bearing, overdrive shift, input shaft seal, and more as listed on the seller’s maintenance log. A push-button overdrive is equipped. The seller has replaced the speedometer cable seal on the transmission case as well as the pan gasket.
IPD suspension parts are consist of an adjustable Panhard rod and torque rods. This car retains its original sway bars. The shocks from Bilstein as well as components from Meyle were purchased through IPD. The most recent service included replacing the right rear brake caliper as well as the rear brake pads. The seller notes that the exhaust will audibly contact the rear axle when going over a bump.
The sale includes several receipts and a spreadsheet detailing maintenance since the seller’s acquisition in 2014. The original owner’s manual is dealer stamped and documents the first four years and 45k miles of service. Additional items shown in the gallery include unused Volvo snow chains, a Haynes Volvo 240 service manual, spare headlight bezels, new Bilstein Touring class front struts, plus Meyle tire rod ends and ball joints.
The Carfax shows no accidents or other damage and reports registration beginning in 1989, with Arizona ownership indicated throughout the reporting period.
