6×6 Project: 1975 Volvo C304

$

0

This 1975 Volvo C304 is a six wheeled, 6×6 variant of the more popular 303 4×4. Like that truck, these were designed primarily for military use but were also sold to civilian markets. This one’s an ex-Swedish military example that’s running and drivable off-road, but will need quite a bit of work returning to the surface streets–freeway  use isn’t a good idea thanks to its 62 MPH top speed. Find it here on Craigslist in Fallon, Nevada for $9,995. Special thanks to BaT reader Thomas M. for this submission.

1975 Volvo C304 Side

Though running, the truck’s B30 gasoline six cylinder burns about a quart of oil per tank. Other worries include a worn down brake drum (there’s six), front end “death wobble” at speed as well as rust, quite a few cosmetic issues and more detailed in the ad. None of it sounds beyond repair, but the next owner should expect a project.

1975 Volvo C304 Front

Changes include switching from original 24v electrics to a 12 volt system, mechanical fuel pump to electric, clutch-driven cooling fan to electric, electronic ignition conversion, simplified exhaust system and more. Hubs lock via vacuum, and front wheel drive is engaged via electric switch–currently its disconnected so the seller simply flips a breaker instead. We thought it looked cooler in old camo before a strip-down to bare metal, and might consider a similar path once needed repairs are completed.

8/8/2015 Update: Five years later, this V8 swapped Volvo is again on offer, now in Topeka, Kansas, in what looks like a very similar condition. The grim taillights remain, but the rest of the car still looks like great fun. Find it here on Craigslist for only $5750. Special thanks to BaT reader carney for this update.

7/18/2010 Update: Seven months later, this Volvo has made its way to New Jersey and is now being offered for sale here on eBay by the new seller. Special thanks to BaT reader Todd S. for this update! We have updated the photo auction links below.

1975 Volvo 242 V8 Front

From 1/2/2010:

This 1975 Volvo 242 has had the stock drivetrain swapped out in favor of a Chevrolet small-block V8 and a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission. It looks good in black and features a sunroof and the good looking 2-door proportions, but the custom taillights and rear spoiler need urgent attention. Find it here on eBay in San Diego, California. Special thanks to BaT reader Todd S. for this submission!

The engine swap below looks like it was cleanly performed. As a 1975 model this car is smog exempt in California so state testing is not an issue. The Holly carburetor likely makes some good power but we’d love to see a more modern injection unit installed. The car should keep the cost of entry down. The engine has robust 4-bolt main caps and relatively mild 9:1 compression. The radiator is out of a 90’s-era Camaro, as is the transmission.

1975 Volvo 242 V8 Engine

We would have expected the builder to take the easy way out and install an automatic, so we really respect the extra work done to keep this car a stick shift. The Nardi wheel works well, though a black leather wheel would go better with the black/black scheme. The quirks of the original Volvo interior are maintained but the gauges have not yet been sorted out.

1975 Volvo 242 V8 Interior

Source some early 242 square taillights and eliminate the rear spoiler at the same time. The best option would be to kill the impact bumpers as well in favor of some earlier units, but that is not as critical as the lighting. This car clearly needs some details worked out but the drivetrain and clean black body make it worth a look. It would be fun at an open track event or just at stoplights were it could cause trouble for the guys in the Mustangs.

Running Project: 1977 Saab 99 EMS

0

This 1977 Saab 99 EMS has its needs but sounds like a good rolling resto project, the seller detailing a good engine, transmission, brakes and many other recently tended to items. Rust is the biggest hurdle to jump, but the seller describes it as both moderate and repairable. Find it here on Craigslist in Poulsbo, Washington for $2,500. Special thanks to BaT reader Will S. for this submission.

1977 Saab 99 EMS Front

First sold in ’72, the EMS package (Electronic fuel injection Manual transmission Special) was Saab’s sportiest offering prior to the Turbo’s introduction in ’78. Upgraded suspension, more power, quicker steering, exclusive colors and–depending on the year–cosmetic changes like this car’s excellent soccer ball wheels set the EMS apart from other 99’s.

1977 Saab 99 EMS Rear

This one’s said to have decent paint, good glass and appears to have complete trim as well. A fifth, matching alloy is included for the spare and all tires are said to be good. The front fender shows rust in the corner just forward of the wheel and is matched by similar corrosion on the opposite side, and the trunk is also said to need metal repair.

1977 Saab 99 EMS Interior

The interior is described as being in good condition apart from a small tear on the driver’s seat, cracked dash top and a missing headliner. Carpets look a bit rough, but could just be dirty. The Saab Sport steering wheel is a great touch, and the working sunroof is another plus. Gauges are new and said to be fully functional as well. Rust is present in driver’s upper foot well, but isn’t shown in detail.

1977 Saab 99 EMS Engine

Though said to run pretty well, the engine has water pump idler shaft problems and is currently running a Bosch electric unit that the seller recommends against using for anything but yard drives. A spare motor is included. Recent work included fitment of new spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, points, new fluids and more detailed in the ad.

This 1967 Volvo 142 looks very nice and possibly very original as well. Described as having originally belonged to a close friend of the seller’s family, it has some unspecified but minimal rust as well as a few age-related bumps and bruises but overall presents as an attractive, enjoyable survivor. Find it here on Finn.no in Telavåg, Norway for 43k NOK (~$5,200 USD today). Special thanks to BaT reader Oliver K. for this submission.

Pre Monte Carlo: 1964 Saab GT 850 Project & Parts 96

$

0

This 1964 Saab GT 850 is described by the seller as both a basketcase and restorable, and though certainly rough, these Saab Sport engineered bullnose cars are among the rarest and most special two stroke Saabs out there and we think that this one warrants further preservation. Fortunately, sale includes a standard 96 parts car. Find the pair here on eBay in Princeton, Minnesota with reserve not met.

Saab Other GT8 50 | eBay

Structural condition isn’t mentioned, however we do see quite a bit of rust on the exterior and along the inside, bottom seam of the passenger side door as shown in the listing’s gallery. Glass looks good however, and most trim including the cool GranTurismo 850 trunk lid badge remain in place. Several plastic lenses are photographed separately in a box.

Saab Other GT8 50 | eBay

The interior looks pretty good as shot, however odd angles and limited coverage leave overall condition to the imaginiation. Hopefully there’s no rot underneath the sisal floor mats and carpeting. Note the cool three spoke steering wheel.

Saab Other GT8 50 | eBay

Sale includes a correct two stroke, three cylinder engine and triple carb intake, however the GT specific crank is missing and may prove difficult to source.

Turbo 16V/5-Speed Swapped: 1968 Volvo 145S

$
0
0

This 1968 Volvo 145S was sourced in California but has more recently been transformed into a 16 valve, turbocharged restomod in Canada. All fabrication and swap work is said to have been done professionally, and though the car needs some finishing, from what we can see build quality does appear to be very good. Find it here on Craigslist in Vancouver, BC, Canada for $16,500 CAD (~$12,700 USD today).

1968 Volvo 145S Front

Paint is believed to be original apart from various touch-ups, and though presentable in photos the seller says it could stand to be resprayed. Rust is also mentioned, the ad noting a quarter sized spot on the driver’s side floor pan as well as a low-quality fiberglass patch over a similar opening on the opposite side. Outside, two spots appear on either side just above the rockers and behind the rear doors, as well as some surface corrosion around the rear windows and below the rear bumper. Wheels are 16″ x 9″ Epsilons, and another, 15″ set of MSW meshies will be included for the right price.

1968 Volvo 145S Engine

The interior isn’t photographed but the dash may have a crack or two as the seller does note that an undamaged spare is included. Though lined with sound dampening material, the seller says that it’s loud inside, further noting manual steering and stock brakes with performance pads–among the things they list as needed upgrades in the long run are coilovers (to replace cut springs), larger brakes and a stouter rear end. The blueprinted and balanced B230FT runs a 16 valve head, RSI pistons, rods, a Garrett GT28RS turbo and much more detailed in the ad. Overall, it sounds as if it could take a lot more than the eight pounds of boost currently dialed in.

1968 Volvo 145S Build

Here it is in the shop. Though running a Mustang-sourced T5 5-speed, the seller says that third gear is a bit graunchy and that a rebuild would be helpful. Fix the rust, trans, upgrade suspension and brakes along with an appropriately geared LSD read end and this thing could be a ton of fun.

Early Eight Valve: 1980 Saab 900 Turbo

$
0
0

This 1980 Saab 900 Turbo is an early eight valve car that’s said to be in very good mechanical and cosmetic condition with no rust. Black and Inca wheels are big pluses, and though we can’t see the back, a louvered rear window would round out the package very well. Find it here on Craigslist in Colorado Springs, Colorado for $6k. Special thanks to BaT reader Andrew A. for this submission.

1980 Saab 900 Turbo Front

Said to drive very well with a healthy, smoke-free turbo, it’s a 5-speed model with a surprisingly nice interior. Saabs of this era had notoriously crack-prone dashes, the worst effects of which this one seems to have escaped. Upholstery is nice and all original with the exception of the driver’s upper seat back which doesn’t quite match. Fully functional apart from A/C, odometer and clock, the manual, sliding steel sunroof is a desirable option and remains leak free.

1980 Saab 900 Turbo Interior

16 valvers are quicker and arguably better looking as well, but these early cars are nearly as much fun to drive and are even scarcer in good condition–this one might be one of the best we’ve seen this year.

45K Miles: 1983 Volvo 245 GLT Turbo Wagon

$

0

This 1983 Volvo 245 GLT (VIN YV1AX4756D1497171) is claimed by the seller to have logged fewer than 45,000 miles from new, having been purchased at an estate sale in 2006 and only driven occasionally since. Further said to be completely stock and in very good mechanical condition, they add that it’s largely free of rust, although the original Redwood Metallic paint shows fading on both hood and roof. Find it here on eBay in Dickerson, Maryland with reserve not met.

Volvo 240 GLT Wagon

Inside, the driver’s side door cards look very good and cargo area carpeting shows no evidence of hard use. Black trim applique beneath the greenhouse also looks to be in great shape, with little discoloration or fading as is common. Pin-striping, likely a dealer add-on, matches the beige interior.

Volvo 240 GLT Wagon

The underhood view seems consistent with the car’s age, and the engine has reportedly been started regularly, showing no fluid leaks. Recent maintenance includes all fluids, filters, and typical tune-up items, the seller further stating that the motor and 4-speed automatic transmission “operate like new.”

Volvo 240 GLT Wagon

Although our personal preference would be the four-speed-plus-overdrive M46 manual gearbox, many Volvo fans believe the automatic is a better match for the boosted four cylinder. Given this example’s low mileage and better-than-average condition, we’d gladly make that tradeoff.

$800 Project: 1969 Saab 96

$
0
0

This 1969 Saab 96 is a rusty and tired example that’s been idle with the seller for a year after they rescued it from a field where it had sat for a seven years prior. The seller suggests it’s only good for parts, though we’d guess it could be restored if given a sizable budget of resources. The ad is pretty funny and definitely worth a quick read. Find here on Craigslist in Overland, Missouri for $790. Special thanks to BaT reader Marty W. for this submission.

00T0T_8gB8OoBfQxM_600x450

The biggest hurdle in restoration is rust in the body, which has holes in the floors and rot throughout the sills and panels. At least trim is all present, further increasing the likelihood that this Saab is destined t0 be a donor car. Originally Hassar Blue, it was poorly resprayed this lighter shade at some point in the past.

00O0O_ejFo6RIpHmH_600x450

The interior is mostly complete except for the rear seat which partitions the cabin and trunk. The dash is cracked, though switchgear looks fully intact and salvageable. Upholstery would serve best as templates for replacements.

Sad-Saab-Interior

The Ford-sourced V4 engine is said to have run when last parked, the seller adding that work includes a new mechanical fuel pump, base gaskets for the rebuilt carb and a restored fuel tank. The manual gearbox’s condition is unknown, though the seller says it needs a new clutch. Additionally, brakes are said to be non-existent.

Sad-Saab-Engine

Though cheap, this one’s almost certainly too far gone for restoration to make any kind of financial sense. It does have many useful parts, such as the complete trim and engine, so let’s hope at least some of it will drive again in other 96’s.

This 1988 Saab 900 Turbo convertible is on offer by the original owner and is said to be rust-free, always garaged and in excellent condition. Only this photo is provided in the ad, but we like what we see. Weirdly, the seller briefly mentions that paint has no clearcoat, adding that it’s protected with Meguiar’s products. Said to run well, the head gasket, timing chain, clutch and A/C condenser have all been replaced, not to mention the fresh convertible top. Find it here on the Saabnet Classifieds in Fort Wayne, Indiana for $6,500. Special thanks to BaT reader Lee K. for this submission.

This 1973 Volvo 142 (chassis 1426364) is a two owner, low mileage example. This was the year these models received their last new look before being phased out in favor of the 240, with a completely different rear end, new grille design and interior rework, and this one’s great color and nice condition both stand out. Find it here on eBay in Las Vegas, Nevada for $6,500 OBO. Special thanks to BaT reader Patrick G. for this submission

Two-Owner 1973 Volvo 142 2-Door

It appears that the old Swede in great shape with unblemished, straight panels and nice gaps.  Trim looks bright, glass is undamaged and the stock steelies with center caps shine. The factory matching exterior/interior color provides a heady dose of Sea Foam Green and may not be to everyone’s liking, but we think it looks quite great.

Two-Owner 1973 Volvo 142 2-Door

A look at the instrument cluster shows everything to be in order, with clean, legible gauges and good plastic surrounds. Note that the odometer reading is a little younger than the ad claims, so we’re assuming it’s currently being driven. A/C is a nice option on this car.

Two-Owner 1973 Volvo 142 2-Door

The inside bits look just as good, with no rips or wearing on seating surfaces and nice carpets, too. The dash appears to be free of cracks as well. Although the ad states that thousands of dollars were spent on maintenance over the last six months, no mention is made on what exactly was fixed and if the work performed was preventative or reactive maintenance. Said to now run well, the engine bay appears as we’d expect of a 20k mile car.

Two-Owner 1973 Volvo 142 2-Door

The original dealer’s window sticker is included, along with factory brochures and the last bill of sale. If you’re in the market for an older brick, this one definitely looks to be a strong contender for some garage space.

Turbo BMW V8 & Skyline GT-R Drivetrain: 750 HP Volvo Amazon

This Volvo Amazon retains very little of the donor car except for the roof and a few other body pieces. Running a full custom tube frame, power comes from a turbocharged, 750 HP BMW V8 running through an R32 chassis Nissan Skyline GT-R AWD driveline–notably, power can be routed 50/50 front rear or 100% to the back at the touch of a button. Find it here on Blocket in Mölndal, Sweden for 349k SKR (~$41k USD today). Special thanks to BaT reader Tobias K. for this submission.

Volvo Amazon 750hk GTR AWD

Build quality looks very impressive, and though we were unable to find any videos of it in action, the car seems to have run at Gatebil last year. Apart from the roof and what the translated ad calls “mudguards” and “thresholds”, the rest of the bodywork is fiberglass.

5920551958

Twin intercoolers for a single, sizable turbo sit directly behind either grille opening, with engine cooling handled by a trunk-mounted radiator–be sure to check out the ad’s full gallery to get an eyefull of the build’s fantastic detailing.

5992702173

Wheels measure 18 inches in diameter and look seriously wide, too. Brakes are massive 356/330mm front/rear discs. Note the duct work for the trunk-mounted coolant system.

5926795449

Every photo reveals more impressive build details. The full digital dash is matched by an equally cool remote shifter assembly, big Sparco race chairs with harnesses and even a cabin heat system with fan ventilation.

5969412044

Somewhere, there’s a switch or button that allows the power split to be changed from 50/50 to full RWD.

5901225492

Here’s the heart of the beast, claimed to be good for 750 reliable horsepower. Weight is quouted as 1,360 kg with a conservative-sounding 0-60 MPH time of 3.2 seconds. Described as turn-key, we absolutely love this build and especially the fact that it remains street registered. Check out this very good Speedhunters article for more.

GT850/Suicide Door Hybrid: 1959 Saab 93b

$
0
0

This 1959 Saab 93b is a great mix of early suicide door bodystyle and more powerful GT850 power. Described as mechanically sorted with a newly rebuilt freewheeling transmission, the seller says it’s ready for long trips at freeway speeds but advises that tires need replacement first. Rust is an issue, but is said to be moderate. Find it here on the seller’s own page in Oregon for $8,800. Special thanks to BaT reader Mike R. for this submission.

1959 Saab 93b Front

The car has an interesting history–according to the seller, the previous owner purchased a ’64 GT850 when it was two years old, promptly rolled it and then stuffed it away for the next seven years. In 1973, the PO purchased this ’59 93b for a dollar and began transferring over all salvageable parts including the engine, brakes, steering, suspension, wheels, electrics and even all of the interior barring the rear seat which wouldn’t fit. Also notable is that the Gran Turismo’s engine is said to have been rebuilt using Saab parts immediately prior to the PO’s purchase, the seller estimating that it now has approximately 13k miles added over the past 50 years.

1959 Saab 93b Rear

Resprayed white around the time of this parts swap, the original color had more of a beige tint as evident in factory paint remnants on exposed interior metal surfaces. Based on what we can see in photos we’d describe the car as being in decent driver condition, its several dings, scrapes, chips and other imperfections easy enough to live with as long as mechanicals are as sorted as claimed. Rust is evident in the bottom of doors, in the trunk and underneath, however the seller does claim that it isn’t bad and that the car is solid in crucial, rot-prone areas like the firewall and shock towers.

1959 Saab 93b Interior

The interior looks to be holding up pretty well also, though a pretty nasty stain on the rear bench is distracting. GT850 gauges and wood rimmed steering wheel are big pluses to be sure, and a period style Saab/Bendix radio is included separately–we’d swap it in ASAP along with an old mechanical Halda Tripmaster rally timer.

1959 Saab 93b Engine

Apart from the near half century old but low mileage engine rebuild, the car benefits from a recently rebuilt transmission, radiator, brakes, water pump/generator unit and clutch. Said to be in excellent running order with welcome added power from the GT850 motor, the ad further claims that it’s ready to drive anywhere at freeway speeds once aged tires have been replaced.

1959 Saab 93b Extras

Here’s a small selection of included extras such as a custom tow bar, spare rear window, two extra wheels and tires, a hood badge, GT850 and 93b owner’s manuals, service books, various relays, lens covers, trim pieces, an additional Nardi/Saab wheel, piston rings, brake rebuild parts, master cylinder, bushings, shocks, thermostat, CV joints and more detailed in the ad.

This 1968 Volvo 122S station wagon (chassis S53435373) represents the last model year for this body style, and features clean original details and a cool factory full-length roof rack. Find it here on eBay in Los Angeles, California.

No Reserve: Volvo 122S Station Wagon

The wagon’s Desert Sand exterior paint and panel fit appear much better than average, the seller noting no evidence of prior bodywork or accident damage. The removable roof rack is a cool period accessory, and looks to be in great shape as well. Side marker lights, front seat headrests, and extra instrument panel padding were among the safety additions mandated by NHTSA for the 1968 model year.

Edited IMG 2090 (1280x852)

The underhood view is quite tidy, although the seller notes some light oxdiation and paint chipping in the engine compartment. The 1.8-liter, 115-HP OHV four cylinder “red block” is known to be an exceptionally robust and long-lived engine. It’s mated to Volvo’s M40 four-speed (non-overdrive) manual transmission. The seller states “The car starts right up and settles into idle quickly!  The engine has plenty of power to propel the wagon and the nice period, long throw shifter fits the car and the drive perfectly.”

No Reserve: Volvo 122S Station Wagon

The NHTSA-inspired 1968-only lower dash padding and revised switchgear can be seen in this view. The seller notes some flaking on the instrument cluster surround (visible in the photo), otherwise the Cognac Brown vinyl interior is said to be all original and in very good shape, with unmarked door cards, headliner, and carpeting.

Edited IMG 2120 (1280x853)

The 122S/Amazon series solidified Volvo’s reputation in the States. These cars paved the way for the later 140/240 series, but more to the point, they are acknowledged to be enjoyable, easily maintained classics as well. We can easily see ourselves loading up this Swede’s roof rack for a camping trip! Hagerty currently pegs the “Condition 2″ value of this model at $12,000.

8/22/2015 Update: Nearly two years later, this heavily modified 1967 Saab Sonett is back on the market, this time with a price tag cut nearly in half. Like we said last time around, the chop top look isn’t any weirder than the original Trollhattan coupe design, and aircooled VW power slung way out over the front wheels opens the gates to nearly endless tuning possibilities. Find it here on Craigslist, still in Fort Collins, Colorado for $5k. Special thanks to BaT reader Rich Y. for this submission.

From 10/27/2013:

This 1967 Saab Sonett is the first we’ve seen with the fiberglass top removed. The look isn’t any more weird that the factory design, bu the VW power in this one is a bit unusual. We’d guess that a flat-4 is more tunable than a Ford V4, especially if Jake Raby is consulted. Find it here on eBay in Fort Collins, Colorado with a $9k BIN. Bare Metal Project: No Reserve 1957 Volvo PV445 Duett

This 1957 Volvo PV445 Duett needs a new owner to finish the restoration process that the seller previously started. Although these practical and utilitarian vehicles had a production run of almost 100k units, they are getting harder to come by these days, as a large number of them lived a hard commercial use life and were left to rot in yards after outliving their usefulness. Find this one here on eBay in Provo, Utah with no reserve.

Bare Metal Project: No Reserve Volvo 445 Duett

The body displays an even coat of oxidation after being taken down to bare metal, but shows the panels to be in what looks like decent shape, with no readily apparent damage noted apart from a few minor dings and some filler on the chin panel. The rear view below shows off the double doors and spare tire compartment, while the rear door frame is mentioned to have a small amount of rust present.

Bare Metal Project: No Reserve Volvo 445 Duett

Apart from the obvious need of floorboard installation, most of the interior structure seems to be present in the photos. The seller notes that the frame was restored and painted, along with the heater. We wonder how hard it will be to procure a replacement horn rim for the cool banjo steering wheel.

Bare Metal Project: No Reserve Volvo 445 Duett

Here is a shot of the fully rebuilt B18 red block, the 4-speed transmission behind also stated as having been reworked.

Bare Metal Project: No Reserve Volvo 445 Duett

The seller notes that most if not all of the panels required to finish the car are present, and they are laid out nicely in the shot below. Just as the exterior pieces, these are oxidized, but appear to be in OK shape with the exception of the rotted panel in the upper right corner.

Bare Metal Project: No Reserve Volvo 445 Duett

Instrument cluster, original Motorola radio, lights, shift lever, and miscellaneous trim pieces are just a few of the items shown here, and they all look to be in need of attention.

With the drive train already sorted, much of the heavy lifting has already been done, but there’s still plenty left to keep those of us who always need a project occupied for at least a couple of very busy months.

This 1966 Volvo 122S Coupe sports a recent restoration in an attractive color scheme. This increasingly desirable model bridges the gap between the charming but undeniably frumpy Volvo PV544 and the iconic 100 and 200-series cars. With a claimed 42k on the odometer, this one should have another half century and countless additional miles left in it. Find it here on eBay in San Marcos, California with no reserve.

Volvo Other Coupe | eBay

The car was repainted by the current owner who states that all of the trim and glass was removed for prep. Rust repair is not mentioned though as a low-mileage, lifelong California car it may not have been necessary. The bright two-tone scheme may not be to everyone’s liking, but per the seller the scheme is a factory Volvo one. The lowered stance might be a bit much for practicality’s sake but looks pretty cool.

By the late 1960s the Amazon had really started to show its age. Its successor, the 140, went into production the same year this Amazon was produced and the even more modern SAAB 99 also came to market before Amazon production ended. 49 years on it is hard to think of a car like this in the context of its contemporaries, and instead a car like this has to be taken on its own merits.

Volvo Other Coupe | eBay

The same level of attention given to the exterior of this Amazon was also levied on the interior and driveline. Both headliner and carpets have been replaced, and the rest of the cabin appears to be equally nice. The engine has been rebuilt and fitted with a new Weber carburetor, and the rest of the drivetrain has been treated to new fluids. New shocks, bushings, brakes and brake lines have also been fitted, though it appears the original single-circuit master cylinder has been retained.

These sturdy, capable Swedes offer surprising performance and legendary reliability even 45 years after they went out of production, and the seller says this one can be “driven across the country as you wish and it will deliver your destination to you at ease and pleasure.”

This 1971 Volvo 1800E has original blue California plates, overdrive, a one-owner history and many other desirable traits. According to the seller, it was picked up at the factory when new and driven the length of Russia before being shipped across the Pacific from Vladivostok–super cool. We always love a car with a story, but this is one of the more fantastic ones we’ve heard in a while. Find it here on Craigslist in Campbell, California for $19,500. We aren’t sure how the owner received clearance to drive this car though the Iron Curtain, and we can’t imagine what it must have been like to do so. It’s clear that it meant a great deal to the owner since, as its current condition appears to be excellent. We particularly like this gold/black color combo.

1971 Volvo P1800E Profile

Things are as tidy inside as out. The butternut upholstery is the perfect compliment for the gold exterior. According to the seller everything including analogue dash clock and rear window defroster remains functional.

Like many other P1800s on the market, this is a high mileage car. The odometer shows just over 231k miles, though the fuel-injected B20E is known to be a potential million-mile engine. The seller states that the car recently received a complete service, including the addition of new brakes, shocks, and fluids. All maintenance records are included as well, possibly to new.

A nice car with killer history, we’re happy to know that preserving this car means preserving that memory. Hopefully the seller took some snapshots along the way.

All Original: Sharp 23K Mile 1971 Saab 99

This 1971 Saab 99 is said to be completely original with only 36,286 kilometers from new. Though the ad says it’s already sold, this seems to stem from an English translation issue. Condition looks to be very good throughout, and the seller adds that it starts and runs fine. Find it here on Blocket.se in Nässjö, Sweden for 75k SEK (~$8,850 USD today). Special thanks to BaT reader Pehr J. for this submission.

The car is shown from several angles including closeups. Sheet metal appears to be straight with good paint and complete, nicely preserved trim. These early 99’s are virtually all gone here in the US, and we can’t imagine there being a treasure trove of clean ones stuffed away in Scandinavia either.

The interior is particularly impressive considering these cars aren’t known for their robust cabin construction. A few more detail shots would be nice, but apart from the missing passenger headrest everything appears to be accounted for including what seems to be the OEM radio.

The 1.85 liter, Triumph-sourced slant four looks good in a tidy looking engine bay and is said to start and run “fine”. EMS’s and Turbos might get all the attention, but these base spec cars are still a hoot to drive thanks to entertaining handling–especially on loose gravel and through snow. Rally heritage is a good thing.

The ad erroneously lists mileage as 3,628, the seller seeming to have conveniently dropped the last digit from the (presumably) true figure shown on its odometer. At first we thought it should be in a museum, but reflecting on the accurate but still impressively low figure we’d be happy to add a few thousand more a year while maintaining cosmetics and mechanicals to a very high standard.

This 1975 Saab 99 is described by the seller as a two owner, 32k original mile example that’s been displayed at several big Swedish meets including a national Saab event. Condition looks to be spectacular, and the headliner is noted as being the only non-original part. Find it here on Craigslist in Worcester, Massachusetts for $6k. Special thanks to BaT reader Gary W. for this submission.

We recently saw a similarly colored 900 five door that featured heavily in a TV show and were struck by how wonderfully this blue suits the 99’s quirky lines. It also served to highlight how cool that non-US bodystyle is, but these four doors are plenty interesting on their own and seem to be less common that coupes on this side of the Atlantic.

The interior looks very good and sounds to be all original apart from a replaced headliner. Note what looks to be an un-cracked dash, somewhat of a rarity in old Saabs. Original rubber floor mats are another nice touch.

Door cards, seat backs and the rear bench appear to be just as nicely preserved, as does the trunk which is shown in another shot. The engine bay looks like that of a low mileage car, and we never get tired of the funky hood opening mechanism and inboard fender construction on 99’s and pre-GM 900’s.

Color, condition and practicality all work in favor of this one, and for $6k it offers an unusual amount of character and style–not to mention a lot of remaining life.
